What are the dumbest Dragonball fan theories you have ever heard?
By - Ricky190
_Goku gets Defense UI while Vegeta gets Attack UI_
Lol I remember that. It was developed just before MUI was shown in the show. People are so quick to assume.
Yeah I think the T.O.P Arc was probably the most wild time for fan theories
Lmao remember the Angel War? It was a fun time though lol
I remember that bs LMAOOO
The problem I had with it was that Goku’s would’ve been useless if all he could do was dodge.
More like Gokus is passive and Vegeta is active.
Ugh, I mean that was annoying too.
Back when the Tournament of Power was airing weekly, a popular fan theory on r/dbz was a "divine war" between the mortals and the angels. Jiren was going to convince Goku to join him in taking out the Gods and Angels, or something ridiculous like that. It read nothing like dragon ball, just horribly bad fanfiction. And yet, people loved it, saying how "iT's So DiFfErEnT aNd UnIqUe WhY sUpEr NoT tHiS gOoD"
TBH while I didn't think they would do anything that complex, it would have been really refreshing to see. The wish to restore all of the Universes was the most predictable ending to the arc they could have gone with and imo vastly lessened the stakes of the ToP by allowing that as an option.
It was made a little better by GP revealing Zeno planned to destroy everything had the wish been anything else, but still. Something a little more original would have been really cool to see.
While the wish might have been predictable, I don't think anybody saw 17 winning, which was enough of a surprise for me. Dragon ball has always been lighthearted action where the good guys always win, and yeah it's predictable but that's part of what makes it fun and enjoyable, at least for me.
You're right about that, it fits the formula for sure. Still plenty of great moments though. The final fight against Jiren remains of my favourites of the entire franchise
I actually liked the idea that's been floated around that the wish to restore the deleted universes would also bring back universes 12-18 to feed into a new arc with a large scale multiuniversal conflict. While those universes getting wiped out ended up just being a throwaway line to show how powerful and dangerous Zeno can be, it could have been interesting if Zeno deleted those universes for a reason
Hahah I just posted about this one too
I was here when it was posted and thought it was so dumb I'm pretty sure I commented under the original post about how it was way to deep for a kids anime and got downvoted and argued with lol
Krillin (and 18) are blue level
My god. I spent so much time back then explaining to people that Blue gives Goku a power boost, AND allows him to dial up or dial down his power.
It's still [stupid.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EDqnYIBW4AMgP8N?format=png&name=900x900)
Forsure. Blue is the new marketable transformation and so they had to make it always present in the narrative
Blue doesn't give him the ability to dial up or down, he can do that in any form.
It kinda sounds like that's part of what ur saying, but i doubt that's what you mean.
Blue gives Goku perfect key control, which he literally said in the anime. That's why he used it to test his team before ToP.
Yeah I could've worded my initial comment better.
It does, but he could always lower and increase his power : )
Of course. It's just that Blue gives him an even finer control of that due to the requirement of pure mindedness
(☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞
Not really. Ssj is a x50 multiplier. And we saw with vegeta making food for beerus that he was too strong to crack an egg. There seems to b a limit on how low goku and vegeta can get
Vegeta was Super Saiyan Blue when Bra was conceived and that’s why she has blue hair.
Wow, those people must think then that Toriyama had already developed ssb when Bra first appeared at the end of original DBZ lmfao
Don't... those people realize... that bulma also has blue hair? And that trunks also has blue hair (in the super manga both kid and future trunks have blue hair)
In the manga Bulma, Trunks and Bra all have light purple hair.
In the original manga, yes.
But toryama has also colored her hair as blue and red.
Anyway, it's kind of the anime's fault for making trunks' hair different and make people think purple is the mixture of blue and black.
But yeah, bulma and trunks have blue/purple hair, so obv Bra would also have
Made me remember how someone at Toei thought it made sense for future T to have blue and kid T to have purple.
Idk if Bulma would have survived that
Too bad both Bulma and Bra’s hair colors are purple in the manga…
The Goku Black being Goten was incredibly annoying.
It was fun and lasted like 2 weeks lol
If it lasted any second longer, it would be just idiotic, not annoying. And the reason why are things like this annoying is that some conspiracy fan theorists make new stupid bs every time. And that time they did too.
not totally sold yet that this is just a fan theory. how can we REALLY be sure he isn’t just goten?
I mean we literally see Zamasu wish for gokus body and kill Goten and chichi
What we didn't see was that goten wished for zamasus body before hand.....
true, this easily could have happened
Bro, he's joking
Was a better idea than what actually happened lol
Not really, it wouldn't really make sense and i this one was kinda simple. The anime version can be confusing but the manga has a short summary of what happened
It wouldn't make sense but the contrast between the two timelines would be very interesting to say the least. In our timeline we have Trunks and Goten as best buddies and in the future timeline, sworn enemies.
I would have loved that theory but futures trunks timeline is dead goku pre cell era right so no goten. Unless this is another trunks from a different timeline. I like the idea of an alternate universe were goku or gohan would be the bad guy.
In Cell's timeline he had his own Trunks that went to the past and got the android's shut down device. The Goten version of Goku Black theory could have just been the Goten from that timeline that Cell's Trunks visited. The events of the Buu saga could've gone horribly wrong due to the lack of a Cell to force everyone to get stronger and that timeline's Goten could've been the only survivor.
I prefer this idea since it's a lot more personal and keeps the theme the arc about the consequences of time travel, instead of merging it with Zamasu and his "Mortals are bad" philosophy. Just give Zamasu his own arc separate from Goku Black that lets Zamasu and his goals shine more
Heck, if theubwant the rouge kai bit, have Zamasu use his time ring to bring Goten to the present and raise him as a fighting machine.
It could easily make sense lol
Yeah, nevermind that Goku died before Goten had been conceived. Would have made total sense.
Ah yes because it couldn't have just been from a timeline where that didn't happen, genius
Hit clone is number one for me. That has zero basis other than "my favourite character couldn't have been out!! No no no!!"
Apparently there was a Tien clone one too
And one for Piccolo!
“Hit is just in another dimension” was hilarious.
I mean, the Tapion thing is the movie's own fault. It draws a direct line between Kid Trunks getting Tapion's sword and Future Trunks having a sword. The movie wanted people to think there was a connection there.
"Toriyama forgets whatever is convenient for my argument."
Edit: [An example in this very thread.](https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonball/comments/nwoa1p/what_are_the_dumbest_dragonball_fan_theories_you/h1dv1u2?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
Hit’s clone is the top of the list for me. Made absolutely no sense at all. He’s never demonstrated that ability and the episode itself never implied any sort of trickery at all.
It was more like finding a reason why he got jobbed that hard
He didn’t even get jobbed lmfao, anime Hit does better at stopping Jiren than ssb and manga Hit was outright explicitly stated to be stronger than super saiyan blue and was actually moving Jiren with his blows.
So? It is still jobbing. He lost against the main antagonist to show the audience how strong he is. That is jobbing
What? That would make Goku the jobber because he’s the first one to lose and show off Jiren’s strength.
Goku didnt job, as his role was to break his limits and surpass him, as he did
Hit's role was just showing Jiren strenght by losing, as Hit was supposed to be stronger than goku.
It is not that hard to understand...
Goku totally jobbed before getting UI. He did SSBKKx20 and then a Spirit Bomb and Jiren just slapped him, that's totally jobbing IMO
^ Agreed. He wasn’t Worfed, but losing for story purposes is, by definition, jobbing.
Tapion giving Future Trunks his sword is pretty heavily implied even in official media.
Woah, one moment... That didn't happen in the end of the Taping movie?? I swear to God I have a clear memory of that scene in my mind!! Mandela effect?
It did but most movies are not considered canon. Also future trunks and kid trunks are considered two different characters
Just adding some [Mandela](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXxrUkeOy7E) to the effect.
it did but the movie isnt canon and couldnt have happened in future trunks' timeline to have given him the sword. our kid trunks will never be future trunks in the future, theyre two different people.
In order for that to have happened, the events of Wraith of the Dragon would have had to happened in the Future Trunks timeline as well.
Either Trunks or Gohan would have had to kill Tapion
Yeah It’s definitely plausible. The [end credits](https://youtu.be/xvC1sKGZkDA) of Movie 13 shows Future Trunks using the sword, almost to drive the point home that it’s Tapions. Also with how much some media and games like Xenoverse 2 push the fact that Tapion and Future Trunks are well acquainted, I’m kind of disappointed they don’t cover the backstory on that. It’s fun to think how that movie would’ve played out in the Future timeline.
I think you're totally right. While it's not official, other Dragon Ball material (the video games) have the origin of Future Trunks' sword originally belonging to Tapion. So somehow, someway, the two meet and Tapion gives him the blade.
Edit: Just had to add this because I watched a theory on it, but it's also possible that another origin for Future Trunks' sword is sword Piccolo gave Gohan during his training. He stopped using it, but it was never stated that he got rid of it or anything. In fact, keeping it for sentimental value is something he would most likely do.
Has it? I mean it was only shown in promotional material (non-canon) and the end of the movie (which the movie is not canon).
Yes I mean it’s “non-canon” but it’s still in official Dragonball media. A lot of these other fan theories only really exist in people’s minds whereas the Tapion/Trunks one at the very least exists within the franchise. Whether it be through the movie, games, or other promotional material it’s still supported even though it’s not canon.
The stupidest one I have heard is the "events of Dragon Ball Super will be wiped from all the character's memories" theory, as if Toei, Shueisha and Bandai would sabotage the massive cash cow that is DBS like that (they won't even officially declare GT non-canon for fear of losing ot on SSJ4 merchandise sales).
"Goku and Vegeta are the same person."
"Goku is the true villain of the series."
And anything involving Haruhi Suzumiya or timelords.
"Goku is the true villain of the series."
I hate edgy contrarian fan theories like these lol.
Agreed. The worst part is they're all the same and forced.
Same shit with the Star Wars fans who seriously say the Empire was the good faction and/or the Jedi deserved to be wiped out.
\>That the entire franchise is Goku's coma induced dream (since he hit his head as a baby)
Does every story have a fan theory along these lines? FFVIII is notorious for having one.
kuririn getting SSJ, still laughing
Well, he's at least come [close.](https://i.imgur.com/VwZFQq9.jpg)
Chi-Chi got kaioken as well.
I believed this as a child cause of her red aura in garlic saga(?)
Once I got internet and rewatch I realised it's not.
Goten is black was a fun meme. The only other one ive heard on this list is taipon.
The 6 point can be applied to every anime franchise you.....Light just was day dreaming about death note while in class....usagi was dreaming bout sailor moon in her sleep after coming back from school...and Ash ketchum in coma thinking all his journey
the logic was ridiculous.
goku black is goten because he has sleeves, and because goten and trunks are friends despite the fact that there is no future goten for future trunks to be friends with and the two characters have no history.
conversely the best fan theory was the jiren = the buddha who bests son wukong one from when the top started, shame it didn't pan out that way the dude put a lot of effort into it.
Wasnt that the inspiration for Krillin or Tien? Maybe both?
No, Krillin was inspired by Tripitaka (as was Bulma), and Tien was inspired by Erlang. We never really had a Buddha-inspired character. Jiren would have been a good option, though.
Anything involving King Cold.
Was he stronger than Frieza via more forms?
Was he weaker than Frieza with no more forms?
Simple answer we don't know and will likely never know. We have no official media that shows the extent of his power.
We'll find out in Resurrection: KC
> Resurrection: KC
Goku: "Time to show you the next level of Ultra Instinct. You're going to love this"
Kaiba: "As president of Kaiba Corp, I declare this invalid!"
*Goku proceeds to only be able to turn Super Saiyan*
Kaiba buys the rights to Super Saiyan and charges Goku millions of Zeni everytime he uses it.
Goku’s heart condition was actually the Crush Card Virus
Well, what if I tould you Freezer is the metaphor on the jackass CEO?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's either very heavily implied or confirmed that Frieza > King Cold.
I think confirmed that final form Frieza is Frieza's true form and implied that he modeled his suppressed second form after his father.
this is most likely the truth
Dragon Ball Multiverse does some really fun stuff with King Cold
Agreed! There are plenty of things wrong with Multiverse but I liked that they went for the theory that Cold could transform more
On a side note: If Trunks thought he traveled back in time along the same timeline and hadn’t considered multiverse theory, why the fuck did he kill Freeza and Cold knowing that Goku was going to do it in a couple of hours? There’s Butterfly Effect and then there’s G-Max Butterfree Effect…
Trunks might have not known that Goku could instantly teleport back and no one would die. He wanted everyone to stay alive to fight the andriods.
He was also there to change the timeline so it didn't matter as long as the outcome was different, he only really cared that he was still born.
Things I believed but got disproved:
\>Goten is Goku Black, man I really wanted this one even how stupid it was
\>Super Saiyan is a big golden monkey and the "first" Super Saiyan probably was a bad guy
\>Piccolo will remain the "Sanji" of Dragonball (Third most powerful)
\>Gohan is the fastest Z warrior (I think I got that from the trading card game?)
\>Cell will be relevant again
\>Book of Namek will have relevance of some form
\>Tournament of Power isn't a one time thing but will be a 'friendly' event every few years between the universes
Things I still believe:
\>Popo is a Genie, but he's an artificial creation similar to a Chirithy
\>A Fusion of Namek and Saiyan (Gohan and Piccolo?) would be far stronger than 2 Saiyans purely based on the inherent abilities complimenting each other (Zenkai Boost + Regeneration for example)
\>Saiyans of Vegeta aren't the only 'Saiyans' as they arrived on the planet from elsewhere, there could be 'Saiyans' (like Namekians) out there that don't consider themself as...Vegetians? Vegetarians? Vegetaiuns?
\>Zeno is a stand in God, he's the one above all in the same way that, y'know, the One above all is. He has all the powers of his creator but isn't the supreme being but rather a manifestation of their will.
\>One of the multiple timelines becomes GT.
Things I believed and got proven right:
\>Freeza survived Namek and will return as they state they can breathe in space. (Had this in Grade 4 and everyone laughed at me. WHOSE LAUGHING NOW THOMAS? WHOSE LAUGHING NOW!?)
\>Dragon Ball will Come back and GT won't be as canon as people think
\>There will be a Dragon Ball Live Action Movie
\>There are 'evil' Kai
\>Dabura is stronger than he's portrayed as (Thank you Dragonball Heroes)
I hope Thomas sees this
I blanked. Yeah I hope so too. We were in the class room and he literally laughed like "LOL FREEZA AINT A COCKAROACH! Oh what you think he can survive a PLANET exploding? You're such an idiot"
Dang. You called it on Frieza.
They called me a madman...
a namekian saiyan fusion would be really busted jesus. the fusion rips off their arm for the zenkai and regenerates it continuously for infinite strength
Dabura was Perfect Cell level.
>>Dragon Ball will Come back and GT won't be as canon as people think
That's not a theory, most Europeans finished DB in ~1994/1995 and got DBGT in 1999.
So if you are from the US you would be spoiled fast on a quick internet search.
I was like 12 and this was the early 2000s. I wasn't exactly using the internet daily.
Ohhh lol i forgot about the one about Hit's clone
That none of Super’s characters like caulifa, kale, kefla, ribrianne are either not powerful or shouldn’t as powerful because of nothing more than personal gripes.
That kefla defused because of potara breaking……….. people who believe that clearly have never watched the show or read the manga
That Vegeta needed Majin boost to unlock SSJ2
Vegeta can’t achieve SSJ3
Kid boo is the strongest Majin boo
Ki = Stamina. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
**THEYRE NOT THE SAME DAMN THING**
Gohan was supposed to be the MC But Toriyama got yelled at by fans thing
There has never EVER Been a statement that, thats why it happened, Toriyama just straight admits he didn't think Gohan was fit for the role,
Also ANy theory that claims the series was supposed to end at I n s e r t s a g a h e r e
He had clearly planned for it, but Toriyama changed his mind.
There was even a chapter that had a special message at the start saying Gohan would take the lead role.
I think it came down to the production schedule of manga being incredibly fast past. Toriyama probably had it in mind for like a chapter, but opted not too. A note probably made it through so it was included in the chapter, so they just carried on by ignoring the mistake
I dont doubt he planned for it since as he said later on he just didnt think Gohan was suited for the role, But fans for whatever reason like to think that fan outrage was the reason for Goku taking over again
1 month (4 chapters) of a Goku hiatus. Would’ve been better if he hadn’t come back.
Jiren being immune to the spirit bomb because he has a pure heart...the same Jiren who tried to murder a bunch of innocent people to make a point.
Yeah, these are kinda odd...
As for 1, Toriyama just looooves reusing hair style. We see it everywhere, not just Dragon Ball.
I don’t know about 2.
3 is just stupid because Jiren would’ve recognized Goku at the tournament. Plus, we know a demon was the one that did all that from a conversation Belmod had in the stands.
I actually have my own theory for 4. Piccolo could materialize a sword for Gohan has a kid, right? And in the future, Gohan passed down what he learned from Piccolo to Trunks, right? So Trunks’s sword likely came from Gohan. (Trunks himself probably re-beamed the sword to fix it).
6... no franchise is complete without dream theory
We know 7 wouldn’t have been possible because we know what Goten’s hair would be like as an adult thanks to the epilogue of Z! Lol
The "War for Heaven" theory that popped up during the ToP
Someone posted this long ass thing about how Jiren was secretly training the Saiyans during the ToP to help him defeat the Angels who are all evil along with the Grand Priest. Hit eliminated himself on purpose or some shit because he was in on it, and the OP dropped a bunch of themes of power, morality, and mortality that had literally no place in a Saturday Morning kids anime.
I'm sure you can find it, it was heavily upvoted here and people were certain that it would be the conclusion of the arc.
Here's some more dumb theories I've heard over the years:
1. Kefla is only Buu Saga level in power
2. Launch is the first SSJ
3. Saiyans can reproduce homosexually
4. "Saiyan beyond-God" was retconned
5. Divine War theory of the ToP arc
6. Gohan is Goten's dad
7. Broly is Kale's dad
I did some research and gohan being gotens dad has some base, there are publications that develop this serious theory that i saw, for research of course
So Im not the only one who saw this Shit
Grand priest was evil
Freeza is actually a saiyan under all that armor.
Only two of what You meantioned I would call that stupid.
Yamcha as Gohan's dad and Goten is Goku Black (WTH!?).
But the most stupid thing I've seen is...
That Bulma's mother is an android, because Dr. Brief is a scientist and he could build something like that blah blah blah. Like wuuut?
* Goku died and was resurrected on Namek
* Goten was intended to replace Goku as the MC
* Toriyama based SS on Lunch
Haha Goku Black is Goten would actually be pretty awesome
HALF OF THESE DON'T EVEN MAKE ANY SENSE
That Broly was going to join the main cast.
I kept hearing about hit's clone and the two bases thing, but I never really knew what they were
Hit kinda got clapped by Jiren, so to save face "Hit created a clone with time powers and hid in the ring somewhere while the clone gets clapped and sits on the sidelines instead."
Also Hit doesn't say a damn word from when he rings out in 111 to when he gets deleted in 118.
that was it? I wondered if I had missed something people were using as hints but no it was just total ass-pulling
For the Hit thing yeah that was it, and kinda became a meme from there. Like "Hit's still in the ring after U6 was deleted he outsmarted Zeno!"
Or "Hit's secretly helping out U7 in the final episode". Didn't you see that glass break in front of Jiren? That was Hit right there.
The two bases thing I think that was floating around in the ROF movie where it's believed Goku and Vegeta had two base forms, one with and one without God Ki. And I think Dragon Ball Heroes called that state "Saiyan Beyond God."
When in actuality Goku and Vegeta just trained a lot and got fuckin stronk
I’ve never heard the two base thing. Of all the theories I can sympathize with this one more even though I don’t think it’s correct. Sometimes the portrayal of base forms in DBS is pretty confusing, and makes power scaling all over the place.
> the two bases thing, but I never really knew what they were
people saw goku and vegeta with pretty auras in Resurrection F and then Resurrection F versions of Goku and Vegeta were released in DB Heroes or something called "Saiyan Beyond God" and people took this to mean that Goku and Vegeta had "God Ki base forms" and "normal ki base forms". But its always been wrong. They only have god Ki in God forms.
The "two base forms" thing was from the middle arcs of Super, when Goku and Vegeta started using the regular golden-haired Super Saiyan forms again and as a result the story's power-scaling went all out of whack.
People started theorizing that maybe Goku and Vegeta aren't always using their new god-ki power, and essentially have two different base forms: one empowered by god-ki, and one not. It's an understandable avenue to take.
Gods of destruction are stronger than the grand preist this is so dumb
I’ve never heard anyone say this
You will after watching this vid https://youtu.be/FUJZ1q9METc
My own crazy theory: DBZ is a metaphor of the lives of common folk on Japan from the perspective of a kid:
Freezer saga: Japan' s house bubble crisis, people get converted into "punks" to fight that (SSJ, remember that Japan rockers/punks dyed their hair over). Also, Gohan's struggles on Elementary school.
Cell saga: Gohan's struggles on becoming a teen, fighting its inner pasts traumas (Cell it's a mix of bad experiences/traumas merged: Piccolo, Vegeta, his missing dad and hate against Piccolo.... ).
Think about it. At first, Cell is "sensed" like Piccolo. Gohan is "reviviing" it's *firsts* traumas and fighting them.
It's father dies symbolically, as a metaphor on growing the fuck up and solving your tasks alone with just a very little help of your parents.
Ah, yes, I forgot the Androids. Escapism, or running over your problems, or maybe letting your traumas engulf anything you love (Gohan is a nerd). You like, hell... your teen years. Maybe is a symbol on getting idiotized by technology and unhandled futurism like a hikkikomori with an RPG or a computer, and thus, letting your traumas steal the good things of technology and progress (A16).
Buu's saga: Gohan is now struggling to become an adult. Sex with videl and hormones/steroids (Yamu/Spopovich), literal adult rituals thru the Elder Kai, and fears on becoming an adult and having children: Majin Boo's egg looks like an ovule, and then you get a badass *child* which is not bad by itself but in reality it's unable to control himself untild it learns to do so and well... learn to become a good kid.
Sorry for my English.
Gohan having god ki during the super buu fight
Kid Buu stronger than Buuhan.
That the "haircolor" of saiyans have meaning. No, they aren't black haired because of any colormeaning nor is a super saiyan blond because of it. It was simply because Akira didn't want to color the hair anymore so it was white in the manga panels. He even said that in interviews. Really grind my gears everytime i see "db-theorist-video-boys" talking about such "deeper meaning"
That good hearted people can't be hurt by the genkidama.
Ouh boy dragonball z is full of wrong informations that open many theories. Super is non Canon because vegeta said that radditz, nappa and vegeta was the last sayan in space around.
Frieza saga theory: friezer didn't want to destroy namek, he wantet to die. In base Form he destroy a planet with one finger. Namek got a final firm friezer hit and didn't explode.
Buu saga: the power lvl theory from Buu in all forms which one is the strongest. The z sword is future trunks sword (non Canon tapion movie show its from tapion)
That was some older theory I heard about.
That Gohan was gonna get ultra instinct this had to be the dumbest I mean like just think about it
\#4 was literally in a Movie
That movie isn't canon, and Present Trunks & Future Trunks are 2 different characters
To speak on a few of your mentioned theories:
1. Yamaha being Gohans dad was (as far as I know) never a theory, just a joke because they share a lot of the same hair styles.
2. Hits clone… yeah that was dumb, I’m not sure how people thought he could do something he’s never shown the ability to do before.
3. In the anime this is kinda forgivable, because the person that killed his family is presented as a dark entity with glowing red eyes, the same way we saw Goku Black upon his first reveal. However the manga squashes this theory as it’s stated a literal demon killed his family.
4. This isn’t really a theory as the movie itself implies this, but obviously can’t be canon. Calling the events and implications of a movie a theory is like saying Dragon Ball GT is a theory.
5: Again not really a theory, it’s head canon people came up with to explain the massive inconsistencies with their “base forms”. One I myself subscribe to.
6: Haven’t heard that one before, yeah that’s really weird. That would mean it’s a dreams of a literal baby.
7: Yeah that was dumb.
Vegeta getting Ultra Instinct in TOP.
Tapion and Future Trunks makes sense, Trunks was already a kid. I just think that in their timeline Gohan decided to kill him or something instead of risking Hirudegarn showing up and they kept the sword for some reason.
That tapion gave future trunks his sword is the best out of these 7
That the Arale filler episode in Super was a time skip because Trunks looked older in a suit.
Reading through this thread, and being told about the time skip theory makes me glad I avoided Super and talk of it until its English dub run.
> Goku Black killed Jiren's parents
Kind of unrelated but when I was watching the ToP and they got to Jiren's backstory, I was dead certain that the strong, evil villain that killed Jiren's parents was going to end up secretly being Belmod.
I didn't start reading the manga until the Moro arc, so feel free to let me know if there was a reveal like that in the manga but I was surprised when they didn't go that route in the anime.
I take offense to number 7, that theory was simply a way fans wanted Goten to have some importanance.
Probably the "Merus is actually evil and worked behind the scenes to help Moro escape" theory and, by association, the "\*every\* angel is evil and Jiren is going to train Goku and Vegeta to fight them" theory
Goku and jiren team up to overthrow the Grand Priest who is evil
Yamcha is a saiyan was probably the dumbest
I would say Goku getting the heart virus from Ginyu's body swap was a stupid theory as if it did, it shouldn't have taken so long to occur.
gohan becoming the MC
whatever arc the series was supposed to end on or whatever. tons of variations on this one.
goten being black was by far the best theory around because it was more amusing than anything
anything about bringing grandpa gohan back after the dude said “nah i’m good”
Gohan was certainly penciled in for the lead at one point.
Chapter 421 opened with a message:
>“Dragon Ball will continue for just a tad longer! From now on, taking the place of the late Goku as the main character will be his serious-minded son, Son Gohan!”
And there was later this from a q and a with Toriyama
> Q. And then the Cell arc ended. Did you think that everyone felt you would put Gohan into the leading role?
>A."I intended to put Gohan into the leading role. It didn't work out. I felt that compared to Goku, he was ultimately not suited for the part."
Gohan becoming the MC is True
The angry Fans thing is not
Jiren is Buddha was a pretty stupid one I heard once, they figured it because goku is based on sun wukong, it’s fuck mg rediculouse
Had never heard the 7th Point though...and it sounds cool
1. No reason for Goten to become bad
2. Goten didnt even exist in F Trunks timeline.
Second point was definitely the glaring issue with that theory but I think they could have done something with Goten to make him an antagonist. As it stands right now he has 0 personality, just a slightly weaker clone of Kid Trunks if you don't count EOZ
A more recent one is the idea that Bardock saved Granolah when the Cerelean planet was destroyed. Like, why would he do that?! What story purpose would it serve? Why would Granolah not remember a saiyan saving him?
Actually, I like number 4. We never knew how future Trunks got his sword, it could be written into the canon. :)
I remember people talking about number 5 and two base state theories. That was awful.
the tapion movie isnt canon and couldnt have happened in future trunks timeline and present trunks getting it doesnt explain how future trunks has it cuz future trunks is not just our present trunks in the future, hes a different person.
toriyama has explained it. Future Trunks sword is just a sword from the future. its not special.
Huh? #4 is not a theory...
“To go home, Tapion uses a Time Machine (similar to the one used by Future Trunks) to travel back to Konats. As a gift, Tapion gives his sword to Trunks, says goodbye to Trunks, and goes one thousand years back in time to his home.”
Tapion literally gives his sword to trunks at the end of the wrath of the dragon movie so I wouldn’t even class this as fan theory, let alone a dumb fan theory
the movie isnt canon so people assuming it is, is the dumb part.
"Super(s) \[is/are\] the one *(or more)* true canon continuation(s) of the original Dragon Ball manga!"
thats not theory, its fact. Toriyama literally said it is the continuation of his manga, unlike anything else, so it is. There is nothing to debate here. Its not subjective or up for interpretation.
In case you missed what I was getting at with all the parentheses and stuff, there are *TWO* distinct versions of Super. Despite how they may have started out, with the manga just serving as a companion summary of the anime, they gradually evolved into unique narratives with too many differences between them to count as the same story anymore.
They can't *both* be the one canon continuation of a prior story, that's inherently absurd. So then, manga or anime? Which version of Super is the *one* true Toriyama-touched holy "canon" sequel to the original DB manga?
This is Dragon Ball, canon isn't a thing for this series really. The way I look at it is, they are all canon in their own ways. Why can't the manga and anime both be canon in alternate time lines? I mean, that is how I view it. DB/Z/Super manga is its own canon, same with the DB/Z/Super Anime.

That's kind of just helping to illustrate my point. There's no way to force things into a *single* straight line. Even Super, which people constantly and misguidedly try to fellate as "THE true canon continuation" of the original story, can't even actually be that because there's *TWO* versions of it.
You can't have TWO different versions of the same story BOTH be "canon." It's inherently absurd and self-contradictory. When you start compensating by sorting things into separate paths of "manga canon" and "anime canon," then you've already nullified the idea of a singular "canon" in the process.
I use this analogy a lot *(unfortunately often to deaf ears)*, but DB continuity is more like a big tree. The core story of the original manga, which is what matters most, is the trunk, and everything else is just a branch splitting off from it.
Some branches are bigger than others *(like the 3 full-blown sequel series)*, some go in *wildly* different directions *(like Super DB Heroes and its shenanigans)*, some make contact and intertwine with each other *(like the handful of movies that are loosely connected)*, and so forth... but they're all still just branches. None of them are perfectly congruent with the trunk, none of them can stand on their own without the trunk, and none of them can certainly *replace* the trunk.
Trying to force just ONE story to be the singular "canon continuation" is like taking a chainsaw and chopping off everything but one particular branch. It's needlessly destructive and just ruins the chaotic-but-natural beauty of the tree as a whole.
That's the best why I've ever heard it explained. But hell, even the manga is wonky. Remember when sensu beans just made you super full? Haha, but I love it.
Super is canon.
thats not a theory, its fact lol whether you like super or not doesn't change that.
That Gohan now is blue level lol
That's actually been proven true. Hell, in the manga he's even stronger than that lol.
How? Don't recall reading anything showing he is stronger than blue right now
Manga kale smacked Golden Frieza, almost overpower CSSB Goku, almost take out CSSB Vegeta and Toppo, take out 4 universe, one-shot Anlaza
Kale Fuss with Caulifla and Get Kefla
Vades and Pride Troopers stats that Kefla might be the most powerfull fighter (Jiren was Holding his power Back and only Belmod know about it)
Gohan jumb in and fight her in equal Ground
Both of Them take the othere out But while Kale and Caulifla where knocked out Gohan was Fine
Also Moro arc Gohan is stronger than Post Broly Movie SSB or CSSB Goku who is stronger than His T.O.P CSSB self
even if You dont Go by the manga the anime still stats that Gohan rival ssb Goku power and He was shown to be equal with T.O.P Golden Frieza in Dyspo Fight
Yes, fan theories are bs
He's stronger than 17, who clowned on Seven-Three who was using Moro's power. He tied Kefla in the tournament when Kefla was stated to be in another league from Kale, who's final power-up visibly shocked Goku and Freeza (after her previous power-up broke through Blue Goku's guard). The mad lad is ridiculously strong in the manga.
I know he is strong but is he at goku and vegeta level? They are constantly getting stronger so the blue goal post is moving. Unless im misunderstanding it?
Like how ppl say this character is ssj2 level. Ssj2 would be a multiplier of the base so it will constant be getting stronger
You make a fair point. The Blue level is always shifting because of the continuing strength increases. But no, he is nowhere near Goku and Vegeta. He'd get one-shotted by either of them with little effort.
I guess it would be easier to compare him to a previous character, like Jiren or UI Omen Goku at the tournament.
That Goku could beat Superman if he was on King Kai's planet because it orbited a red sun. I have yet to find any evidence, canon or otherwise, that would back this up. Even then, that's a weird argument to prove that Goku could beat Superman.
That was a joke also the Sun is Not Red and might be bigger than our Sun So it should Give Him power Not take it from him
Superman has shown red sun radiation resistance.
In some versions it doesn't take his power right away.
There's multiple different versions of Superman, and only like 3 of the them are stronger than MUI Goku.
6 can very much be plausible and that goku was a normal kid who for some reason thought he had a tail and is still in a coma.
Gohan being SSJ Blue level.
Still in denial I see lmao
Because being stronger than someone who beat a Blue tier fighter means you're weaker than Blue tier? I've not seen such blasphemy in a few days.
Honestly…it makes no sense how dragon ball will make non cannon things cannon but most things stay non cannon
Like how is Dbs Broly non cannon
But trunks getting his sword from a dude in a movie cannon 😂
