WesleyO_

Man that sucks, and also gives us artists a bad reputation in some way

BudgetHero4Hire

Thanks, Wesley

arteecya

oh this is really sad, gonna save this to be awere

BudgetHero4Hire

Yeah apparently he’s been doing this all over. Thanks!

Drigozi

PayPal is pretty good with refunds, try that!

BudgetHero4Hire

Ty! I will

Drigozi

Good luck! I'd also recommend including screenshots into it when reporting the refund.

leonryan

Sorry that happened to you, but I see your budget was $25 per design. You have to understand that a low budget means you're gambling on unreliable amateurs. Unfortunately, like everything else in life, you get what you pay for here.

BudgetHero4Hire

You’d be surprised how many artists would jump at the chance. But, you’re right. Thanks for your reply

leonryan

I wouldn't be surprised at all. Freelance design is 90% students, amateurs, hobbyists, and desperate third world slaves looking to make a buck any way they can. Some are actually good, some just steal designs elsewhere and resell them, some realise halfway into a job that they've been enslaved and drop out. There's a ton of reasons hiring cheap labor is a bad idea that gets bad results.

Is that your attempt to convince me you offer reasonable rates and are entitled to high quality work?

leonryan

Reasonable to you. Not reasonable to them. I'm not trying to start shit, I'm pointing out to you that you pay peanuts and get monkeys. You've made 7 posts because you're indignant that someone exploited you, while celebrating the fact that previously you've benefited from exploiting artists. The simple reality is that if you expect professional conduct you have to pay professional rates, otherwise whatever befalls you is just the way it goes.

Straight up facts ^

Fantastic_Code_5070

Honestly the dude deserves it at this point

Fantastic_Code_5070

Only desperate people would do it at $25 for a design. You’re just gambling at this point. If you want a serious artist you will have to pitch in

The issue is that $25 is an extremely low rate for a character design. Now take a deep breath before telling us to suck a dick or say a swear because what you're hearing is the truth. Just because some artists are willing to work for that price doesn't mean its ethical or encouraged. Kids in a sweatshop WILL work for 25c a day but is it right? No. There's nothing saying you won't get high quality work for $25. Some artists may be happy to work at this rate if they're looking to get some experience or build up portfolio pieces, and that's fine! The issue lies in people seeing that rate and not feeling the need to increase it, which will result in far more unprofessional people answering your ads. Its much more of a risk.

RAMST3D

Another user posted in comic book collabs, where he paid over $80 and the same artist ghosted him. I'm sorry about what happened to you. But, thank you for bringing awareness to this user. And, it helps us art commissioners think of better ways to instill trust in our client so they don't get ripped off. Because most of the time it's vice versa.

janeohmy

Wasn't there a constantly updated list of scammers?

CruzaSenpai

[Yes.](https://www.reddit.com/r/artcommissions/wiki/index/known_scammer_list)

B1tterCherry

Have you been keeping in touch? You can file a chargeback but it has a time limit of 180 days before it's no longer available. For future reference when hiring a new artist, check if they have an active public queue like a trello, their consistency with posting, if there were any previous customers who had complaints or issued a beware/caution on them.

BudgetHero4Hire

Thank you, I appreciate the message. This has only happened to me one other time. I’m too trusting I suppose

B1tterCherry

I wouldn't say that, just bad artists that make the good ones look bad as well. I'd also advise the 50/50 method so if someone does try to scam you again, its only half the payment you need to file for rather than the full. You can post on artists beware to alert others about the individual: https://artistsbeware.info/

BudgetHero4Hire

Yeah I like your idea!

somebody11221122

I got ripped off my u/classlessness

dannyfranca

so sorry to hear that hope that you find a way to get refunded somehow

BudgetHero4Hire

Ty!

So he must have different PayPals. Thanks

LadyJekyll

Just jumping in here as an artist who takes commissions. Before you jump to accusing them of ripping you off, can you confirm if you contacted them during the time to request an update? Did they lay out a time frame for you in the beginning? I'm a full time artist ( combo of patreon, etsy and commissions ) and 2 weeks is not an unreasonable amount of time to be working on a commission just for the record!

Hahahaha okay pal, was just trying to get some extra info to advise you further but go on the defense I guess!

Professorgarryoaks

Just saying OP has shown themselves to be a very child minded and aggressive person. Not saying they're lying, but seeing how they responds to simple questions or suggestions, I wouldn't be suprised to find out there's more to the story. That being said, I do hope any scammer is brought to light and removed.

RAMST3D

Wow, that's a new low suspending him because he was alerting the community to scammer lol...
