That guy is my Senator.

He has a follow up tweet clarifying that he means it is a good thing that the Supreme Court overturns some previous decisions. He's still wrong, just for different reasons, he isn't (yet) calling for a return to segregation.
then why did he also mention the brown case? surely if that was his position then he would've just mentioned the original "separate but equal" case to "debunk" Obama talking about precedent.
He's probably just a massive dumbass (he's a republican so it's likely) and so forgot how words work
Because in the ruling of the Brown case the justices overturned Plessy. I'm a hundred percent certain that there are Republicans who want to roll back civil rights gains even further, including possible segregation. But in context what he's saying is pretty clear.
Cornyn is a US Senator he has a cushy 6year term so maybe but he likes to keep eyes on Ted Cruz and off of him. He only won his last re-election by 8points, as GOP incumbent.
Forced Desegregation of Schools, and integration of the military during the Korean War left a different impact on the culture of South than u see elsewhere. The big take away in the South was, Being racist is one thing, but Segregation is criminal.
https://time.com/4535292/donald-trump-black-slaves/?amp=true I remember when this article published and not just right-wingers but centrists claimed the author was “being dramatic” (even though the 14th amendment loophole that allows slavery has been well known and well documented).
It’s always “calm down, it’s not gonna happen”- even I’ve been guilty of it, when I first starting learning about trans rights around 2013-ish and bathroom access I thought “no one’s actually going to make it illegal to use a bathroom, right? That can’t happen” and then 2016 came along and North Carolina did just that.
My English teacher was a badass Gen X feminist, and quite possibly the most clairvoyant person I’ve ever known on account that while we were reading Handmaid’s Tale she said how she hated how her fellow 90s feminist were so self-assured that Roe V Wade will never be overturned, and warned us that the laws being passed in Alabama and Georgia was an Oman of what’s to come.
Sadly Cornyn won re-election in 2020. But he only had an 8 point lead on MJ Hegar. Ted Cruz had the closest senatorial race since 1978 and won by only 215000 votes in 2018. Texas is going Blue!
To copy a comment I made on another post:
Yeah I think this is a horrible tweet but if you think this is him endorsing segregation you are *really* dumb

Same here unfortunately. At least I didn't vote for the guy.

Either he was dog whistling or it was a poorly crafted attempt at virtue signaling. Either way cornyn is a scumbag.
No dog whistle or virtue signal, just a poorly crafted tweet

The two cases seem to say opposite things, so I think he probably wasn’t calling for segregation.
On the plus side, Jesse Lee Peterson already has his sack for picking the cotton
He is arguing that brown v board was good despite overturning precedent, not the other way around
The intern who wrote this is losing their job. Bringing up segregation and the GOP obvious support for is not a good look.
If the appearance of racism was going to impact the Republican's chances it would have already happened, I imagine.

And of course in response to an Obama tweet

The mask is nonexistent.
