To clarify real quick: HLBTQ is Finnish for LGBTQ
Torille! As a side note, have you ever read Popular Songs from Vittula?
im not who you asked but i have that book by my bed right now!! ive been meaning to read it but havent yet haha
Oh well I can say it's a very easy read! It's a cool lil book, my partner is Finnish Karelian and she put it on our book club for this month. Very funny and evokative book.
I had to read it for school but it was pretty good
I'm surprised unless you are Swedish, but also it is a very good book for a teenager/kid
im finnish, but the setting is in tornedal so its geographically almost finland.
the book was esp. fun since meänkieli is just on the border of the finnish language and non-finnish languages
Ahh, that's interesting! I wasn't sure this book would be popular in Finland as well. My partner is Karelian and she is reading the meänkieli version of it while I read the English version. They aren't too different but a lot of the language play that happens in it is lost on her since the English one uses meänkieli a lot.
I will say I also appreciate the civil war talk in the book. It's a hard topic but I appreciate reading it and having more exposure to it.
I've tried. I could not get through it.
I'm surprised since I find the book very easy to read!
Hi hay, Im dad
OHHH UR FINNISH !! LIKE IN ADVENTURE TIME OMGGGG !
I LOVE UR WORKK THANK UUU !!!
for a second i thought h means homosexual lbtq and its the new 'woke' term
My dumb ass can't read and for a second I thought it was "HLGBTQ" and they put heterosexuals into the LGBTQ community 😭
It kinda does mean homosexual lbtq. The finnish term for gay is just "homo"
Homo is a better word anyways, I'm the single gayest man on the planet and I've hardly ever felt gay
Yeah I just kinda accept that shit happening without me noticing and making it this far now. Like, peggle make phone call.
Really thought that the H was for Hetero lol
half life lbtq
Hey, it also is in Dutch!
Ooooh that makes more sense cause my dumbass really thought they added “Heterosexual” to it. Had flashbacks to Chris-Chan.
i can't believe the finnish replaced "gay" with "heterosexual"
Why do they have a special acronym? Wanted to feel special? Wanted to feel unique? Huh? Is that what finland want? To be special in their own little quirky way? By making up their own acronyms? By confusing everybody? I bet the H in that acronym stands for Hetero. Yeah, because that's the kind of thing finland would do. They would add straight people to THE acronym just to be different.
Dude, chill out. I guess whoever came up with the translation wfnted the words to all be in Finnish, and since gay doesn't start with G in Finnish they changed it. The letters stand for "Homo, lesbo, biseksuaali, transsukupuolinen, queer".
Also not to get butthurt, but I really don't appreciate people coming to my posts to insult my language and country.
Love how queer is just exactly the same
Yeah, Finnish translators are lazy as shit 😭 (Saying this as a Finnish translator)
I dont think queer has a common translation in finnish? Ive seen instances of "kvääri" but that feels ihan vitun tönköltä finglishiltä
sphere is sfääri so kvääri just sounds like quere
The great deluge will erase your sinning country from all maps and your language will be swiftly forgotten.
diagnosis: chronically online
treatment: touch grass
I don't know what you have against Finland but honestly insulting other people's home is just kinda shitty. Like I don't really like USA but I don't go around the internet insulting Americans every time someone mentions it.
Honestly you should.
nah thatll start more stupid ass discourse
Go die racist scumbag
I'm not saying your comments are GOOD jokes, but I am saying I'm surprised people don't at least recognize them for jokes. I think once you went negative karma, you were dooooooooomed.
I recognize the jokes, they're just overdone, surface level, and very forced so i don't feel like acknowledging them
This has to be one of the worst troll attempts I've seen in a while. Can't even figure out what your end game is
the h stands for hJerma985
Finland isn't even a real country lol, you got prankrd
Please take less drugs you make the gay people in my phone look bad
What the fuck did the Finnish do to you???? Are you alright????? Are the Finnish after you right now!?????????
Where /s ?
No /s ?
I guess your karma is finnished.
what do you have against the concept of different languages
That's a joke, right?
He got fomo'ed
What no god roll ballyhoo adept does to a mf
My ballyhoo has astro loading, should I keep it?
oh 196 invaded dcj forgot about that
It did? When did that happen?
in case u missed the whole week there was a fuck ton of posts some by 196 users of their jerk load outs with thigh highs in frame
Oh yeah that, I caught that
dude different languages have different words for things. That's why they're different languages.
its ok bro
i got the joke
I'll validate your joke don't worry. It was a good one
you didn't add an /s at the end so the joke will fly over everybody's head lol, good one anyways
That's one way to look at it. Another is that the Dahmer story made people realize just how unprotected the LGBTQ+ community is by the police.
The Milwaukee police weren't looking too hard for Dahmer's victims, as most of them were from one of the most marginalized communities: young, gay, nonwhite men. One of Dahmer's victims was actually forced back into Dahmer's apartment as he begged police to take him away. The police decided that it was a lover's spat and found it funny.
So in many ways, Dahmer's story is an important one for the LGBTQ+ community, just as Matthew Shepherd's and Brandon Teena's are.
The kid was actually found by three women. He was naked, bruised, drugged out, and bleeding heavily from him rectum. It was the women who begged the police to help but of course the police gave no shits. They left the 14 year old boy with Dahmer.
What the fuck
I did not need this today :/
[The pigs also send away an ambulance, when the medics insisted that Sinthasomphone needed treatment.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Balcerzak)
It's absolutely attrocious.
And then the pigs got reinstated back on the force with the pay of 55000$ and faced no consequences! Ain't that just *swell*?!?!?
wasn’t one of them later the head of some police group?
I think he was awarded officer of the year or some bullshit
Jesus Christ. It's time to make some barbecue.
The cops threatened to arrest them too it was very funny and the cop wasn't even fired to my knowledge I'm pretty sure he got like retirement pretty recently
Yeah, it is definitely a very LGBTQ centric story. It's honestly just a funny thought in my head, browsing trough the LGBTQ tag in Netflix, trying to find shows with gay characters and finding this.
To be fair, that applies to all tags. When i look for fantasy stories i want middle age high fantasy stuff, but i get orcs in a modern day US ghetto setting or pansexual vampire relationship dramas set in small US towns sprinkled in. Less an LGBTQ+ specific deal, more „tags are really vague“.
Bright is not the best movie but I love that worldbuilding and I wish we would see more of that and less Supernatural clones.
But yeah, the tags are stupid. I watched one Spanish TV show 3 years ago and now Netflix thinks I love foreign shows and recommends me a flood of K-dramas.
Yeah. Maybe, just maybe, they shouldn't lump every other country together under "foreign."
It’s also more than that. Dahmer when young wasn’t able to come out really, he was pretty fucked up from living this lie of a life and it spiraled out from there. It’s entirely possible his life would have gone a totally different way had he been part of a community that truly accepted him.
But you know, it didn’t. And he ate 17 people. So.
Acab back then. Acab today.
Isnt it illegal in some places to refilm acts of serial killers?
I’m sure Netflix has good lawyers lol
Better call Saul.
Honestly, I don't know if the story of the victim being sent back is due to homophobia.
Reading the reports of that night it gave me more of an impression that the police was simply incompetent and gullible. I don't think a police officer who is homophobic would send a boy (who he believed was a man but was actually only 14) back with who they believed to be his male lover.
There is also the possibility of racism. While the officer claims not to be racist, I am inclined to believe that he had subconscious racial biases that led to him believing the serial killer over the boy and witnesses because the serial killer was white and the others weren't.
Sexism could also have been a factor. The three witnesses were women. The officer might not have been misogynistic but subconscious sexist biases may have factored into his decision making.
But honestly I just don't see the homophobia, the officers did not seem at all to have anything against same sex relationships. So once again I still think it's just bias and incompetence.
"The kid was actually found by three women. He was naked, bruised, drugged out, and bleeding heavily from his rectum. It was the women who begged the police to help but of course the police gave no shits. They left the 14 year old boy with Dahmer."
>In the aftermath of Dahmer's arrest, an audiotape of Balcerzak and Gabrish making homophobic statements to their dispatcher and cracking jokes about having reunited the "lovers" caused heavy criticism. They were fired while Porubcan was put on job probation for one year. By failing to check Dahmer's identification, the officers didn't learn that he was a sex offender with a 1988 child molestation conviction where the victim was Sinthasomphone's older brother, who was 13 at the time. Milwaukee later paid the boy's family a sum of $850,000 to settle a lawsuit over police handling of the situation.
But sure. No homophobia here
Nevermind then, I guess I didn't read enough
HLBTQ = Hi Lester, Benny Took Quebec (quebec is no more)
NOOOO QUÉBEC DONT GO😭😭😭😭😭
Pierre Elliott Trudeau moment
Was Pierre important when it came to Quebec separatism? I guess it would make sense since he was a social liberal who was born in Quebec.
All I know was that he was for gay rights and women's abortion rights, they don't teach you much about this in schools and google isn't helping.
i just told my friend from quebec and shes crying 😢😢
Benny's alternate plan after taking the platinum chip failed. Good for him that he achieved it 👍
benny can keep it
I love how casual that sounds 🤣
it stands for Hannibal Lecter Bisexual Trans
Just wait, conservatives are gonna start saying we're "pro rape" because of a multi-million dollar corporation being stupid.
Don’t worry, conservatives are the ones who said if you’re being raped you should just sit back and enjoy it.
It's clearly god plan, you're god's instrument if you're being raped
It’s hilarious people think like that
no it’s scary
I don't think anything stopped them before this
Pulp fiction was way ahead of you on that one
I've watched pulp fiction and don't understand this please explain
The gay BDSM rape scene with Marcellus Wallace was the first time many people had seen both BDSM and homosexual sex on screen
Oh sure that makes sense
I think they're already saying that anyway
My favourite right-wing saying, rape is ok unless it's POC or gay
Be gay do... crimes ? No dude not like that
Eating people? :D
I see you are from 197 . I guess its technically not rape if he's dead
Why are these comments being downvoted, theyre right, its not rape its necrophilia.
why they gotta make it political smh 🙄🙄🤪
us cannibals are on the come-up....i mean queers...
the H stands for "He killed people"
dawg, just curious. so, why put a trigger warning for rape, if youre going to mention rape, wouldnt that therefore trigger somebody?
I think it goes without saying that those who are especially triggered by certain topics would much rather see the word in a trigger warning rather than the actual triggering content itself.
Probably should’ve spoilered the post in that case though.
Isn't the triggering content itself the word, though?
No, it’s Jeffery Dahmer. People get triggered by actual violence more than they do by the symbolic representation (words) of said violence.
Ohhh, I see. Thank you, that's a good point
No the trigger is the act, or in this case the guy who did it
Honestly, I'm not an expert, just thought that it'd be nice to put some kind of warning. I could censor it in the title tho.
You probably should censor the a in the word at least. Generally censoring vowels of triggering words is a good idea.
no, it isn't, seeing it that way has the exact same effect as just reading the word, but with the added bonuses of slipping past peoples content filters, and also being inaccessible for users of screen readers
You know what thats a really good point. i will stop censoring stuff. Thanks for the info :)
always glad to educate 👍
Fuck, Reddit won't let me edit it anymore. St least I know for next time.
Reddit does not let you edit titles
Maybe try "sexual assault", it's what I've always preferred
Yellow__Roses, do not do that. By censoring the word you're trying to TW, you *bypass* possible filters people put in place for it.
it wouldn't really, no. It's the description of the situation/whatever that's the issue, not the word itself
Rape as a word, out of context, isn't too bad of a trigger. Surrounded by/with context is definitely a different story.
Damn worse tagging than rule34 sites sheesh
At least it's still better tagging than clothes for trans people on Amazon
Which is a low bar to clear but still
holy fuck. that's a low blow
Yas king, slay.
i mean... the tag isnt incorrect...
we'd all be better off if we'd never heard this fucking null's name much less had a goddamn netflix special on him
Literally ranted about this to my best friend. It's just so disrespectful to the victims.
If it's a relevant part of the documentary why would they not tag it?
Proud moment for lgbtq society. Their member is getting a netflix show of their own.More Power to you. SLAYYY
Wait this dude is a fucking serial killer???? The only time when girls hit on me is by saying I look like him and I say "I don't know who that is please stop talking to me" because I'm not interested in them cause they aren't men
this is one of the many shows that I’ve never watched anything similar to but Netflix still decided to give me a notification about it for no reason
LOL this could be a ClickHole headline
TORILLE TORILLE TORILLE
why isnt this a shitposting sub anymore
Been here since 195 collapse. Literally always had posts like this. It’s still (mostly) supposed to be post anything and shitposting happens to dominate that, not a meme only sub
These type of posts were always here, my guy
I thought that this is Mark Hamil for a moment
I get compared to Jeffery dahmer a lot, because I used to wear the same type of glasses
this is kinda how I feel when people talk about Spartans being gay
Asking respectfully as I'm genuinely curious. Why would this be tagged "TW Rape" if the rape related content is the word "raped"? Would that not be just as triggering to whom it concerns as the word in the article?
Think of it as a clinical descriptor versus a contextual descriptor connected to a specific act. To give another example, a cancer survivor might be fine reading a news article about cancer treatments and survival rates, but get upset reading a personal story from somebody with cancer. The abstract versus the personal connection.
Some people may also be triggered by the word in the trigger warning too, but likely less so than when it’s used in an article/comment/story/show about an specific rape by a specific person.
(TW White Person)
Why is tw even a thing, I dont understand
Someone may have trauma on something (like rape) and don't want to read about anything related to it. If there's a trigger warning, they can avoid it.
The 2nd season of American Crime Story about the gay serial killer who killed Gianni Versace is so fucking good
Fuck, that’s a bad look, ain’t it?
"Where is the H"
Another W for the gays in cinema
Lgbt minus the g?
Whats the point in putting a trigger warning if the word that your warning of is in the trigger warning itself??
There are great answers in the comments from people who know more about it than I do. I recommend reading them.
so silence of the lamb is an lgbtq movie?
The H is for homicide :)
I really don’t want to watch it cause I feel it might try to glorify or romanticize elements of what he did like so many other serial killer documentaries
Ok but, is it wrong tho
I think dahmer was a fed
If your trigger warning a word by using that word what’s the point
You unironicaly use trigger warnings?
Dude, I honwstly don't know what I'm supposed to/not supposed to warn about. Thought that better safe than sorry.
I think that was very considerate of you, for what it's worth.
I like knowing what movies are about before watching them
Some people may have past trauma from events and reminding them can lead to pretty severe panic attacks or just make them remember awful things they don't want to remember.
Ok, but isn't something like "tw:rape mention" kinda defeating the purpose? Hpw is a reminder like this different from the one in the post? not tryna make a point here just asking
Me when I'm ableist:
The censor is literally entirely useless if you don't know why the thing is being censored. Like duh, trigger warnings are useful
This is a based sub, try being based next time.
