This is how the game plays most of the time btw. People trying to play this off like out takes or just some bad luck this is the 500 million dollar Crysis Mod hosted on AWS it is the game..

BigAtmosphere3587

Well I mean. I play on and off, some patches have been worse than others but in my experience it generally doesn't happen that much. I'd say I've died about 15 times from stupid bugs, but that's across about 100 hours of in game time. It also usually happens right where you're spawning anyway. Not to say that's the universal experience, but I think it's a bit overblown. Game is playable.

UsainCitizen

The most expensive "game" ever made. Good job Chris.

Treadness

What? World of Warcraft still has 4.5 million players paying $15 a month to play. At its height it had 12 million and has been running continuously for 21 years. At a best guess they have earned around 25 billion off the game (50X star Citizen).

Norobobro

You’re confusing development cost and ROI. Star citizen is ROB’M. Return On Backer Money.

throwawayforbolts

Wrong sub. We like to think here.

Bothand_Nether

the typical star citizen cannot tell the difference between earning & the cost of creating the product /smh

Treadness

So let me get this straight. WOW has earned 23 billion (6 million players x $15 x 12 months x 21 years) but that doesn’t count because it is the “cost of creating the product.” Let’s not forget the 100 million unique users of Wow that all bought the game and many also bought expansions easily paying $50 each (for another 5 billion). However SC selling 440 million in ships and using it to fund you guessed it “cost of creating the project” does count? WOW is earning 75 million a month to run servers for 5 million players. SC is earning 8 million a month to run servers for 500k players. Doesn’t seem that different except WOW calls it subscription and SC calls it ship sales.

cekimilf

okay goober

UsainCitizen

Wow might have the most profits but it cost 63 million to make. Even inflation corrected its way way under SC. Star Citizen by far will be the most ever to develop and its not even half way done at this point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_expensive_video_games_to_develop

Wowfan121231

This has to be the furthest a goalpost has ever been moved lol Now even subscriptions count. CIG is taking subscriptions too .. and let me guess those dont count because they are for ISC But WoW´s subs count even though they money was used to create other games as well shows ( blizzcon ) and so on.

Treadness

Sorry subscriptions don’t count as revenue? So if they call it a ship sale it counts but a subscription fee doesn’t? Revenue is revenue. In total (ship sales and subscriptions) CIG has taken in 440 million. Wow has had 100,000,000 unique users most of whom probably spent $30-$50 buying the game. So call that 4 billion in game sales. Plus tack on another 23 billion in subscription revenue (avg $15/month with 6 million subscribers x 12 months a year x for 21 years). So wow has made at least $26 billion in revenue. That’s 50X star citizen. So no, Star Citizen isn’t anywhere near “most expensive game ever” as it’s spent maybe 2% of WOWs spend.

Wowfan121231

One thing is money earned One is dev cost. CIG earned 500 mil and put it all in the game. Wow earned a few billion but put way less cash into wow. So SC is the most expensive game ever made. You are the only person online i ever met that argues against this. You mix up with "game that brought in the most money" with "game that costs the most money" I mean you could maybe trick it a bit if you factor in money spent on advertising a game. But thats not your point right now. And also that is kind of moot if you talk about what a game cost to make. Because advertising doesnt create a game.

Callahan83

Tell me how did WoW pay for its devolped? Don't remember any jpgs being sold.

Moostard12

But it wasn't that expensive to make.

MadBronie

Sorry to piggy back and necro this post UsainCitizen I just wanted to point out the average time of death **3 hrs 12 minutes** on average between game breaking bug deaths. I had to exclude one where he didn't have his timer running.

CMDR_Agony_Aunt

Damn those doors... and ramps... and lifts... and ships... and rocks...

Wiser3754

And the stairs.

AverageJoeBlack1

This Demo has under developed physics. Game titles from years ago have better physics , it amazes me how the gameplay feels so clunky , no finesse at all. Probably right for Croberts console controller, he is into FPS games. Money sink simulator will never be released.

Bothand_Nether

yeah but it has raytra- nvrmnd

salondesert

The explosions in the video looked pretty shitty too. One second ships were there, the next second they disappeared.

Wiser3754

Like CRoberts. One second he’s there and the next he’s gone into the aether.

Bossman80

I am dying laughing!

redsealsparky

Wow, what a pile of shit.

Golgot100

Some context: The loveable Bognogus never set out on this quest expecting to succeed. He included bug deaths as legit restarts, sometimes let a death play out just for laughs, and even died moments before success on at least one occasion, simply because he was giving a bugged ship a helpful bump to free it. It’s also worth pointing out that he had fun along the way, enjoying moments like [this epic rescue](https://www.twitch.tv/bognogus/clip/IronicEncouragingFriseeWOOP-KqvpCrjxWO6bIrBu). The type of experience Star Citizen can provide at its best. (Before dying on his next combat attempt [due to desync](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1407618763?t=1h29m37s), of course. The type of experience SC can serve up daily ;)) This video compilation cannot display all of that. It's just a collection of some of the more amusing bug deaths from this two month period. (Early Feb to end of March). It's simple purpose is: To underline that, for all its glamour and grandiose promises, SC is still very much a buggy pre-alpha under the hood. As we close in on a decade of development.

Norobobro

That door death at the start was sooo funny! Gotta admit, the rescue was pretty cool. Edit: the whole video is hilarious, bet he is not buying an Idris.

Golgot100

Yep perfect start :D Yeah the rescue is grand. (It seems to actually be preceded by a working game system too. Like his ship taking attritional damage and becoming increasingly unresponsive). Over two months of dropping in on the streams though, the bug-frustrations have definitely been more prominent than the functional fun ;)

Vaccination-Station

Ten years, and half a billion dollars. The greatest long con in PC gaming history.

FlibDob

If this game ever releases, the sheer outrage from players losing gear and ships from bugs will be insane. I know CIG are making a mint on ship insurance right now, but on release, they will make an utter killing once people realise how easily they can die and lose their shit. Crobbers has an income for life here, those sucker whales are queueing up to suck him off and give him money. Sluuurp, Om nom nom...

Cyruslego

Lmao

Armadio79

This. This is why i don't play. I'm just lucky i found SC Refunds first when i was looking for SC reddit.

ThatguyMak

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard watching a video.

ProductionSetTo1000

It's the servers fault. /s

cg_krab

Can I file a complaint with CIG All of the in-game character models appear to be adults, but it's clearly not possible for anything in this universe to live until adulthood

BlooHopper

Its like the commandos are not telling is how buggy this is even with their monster pcs

Bothand_Nether

that's technically a gameplay loop, he did a loop

KindCyberBully

The game “rust” has monthly updates. Ive been fallowing it for years. And a every time there is new major features. Something breaks that takes them months to fix. Scale this 10x based on the employee differences. And you get starcitizen. A buggy mess of a tech demo. It’s irritating me that I know about starcitizen. I wish I never did until after release.

MadBronie

You don't think that this game is ever going to release as anything more than a buggy sloppy mess that is a fraction of a fraction of the promised game do you ?

KindCyberBully

It’s completely possible to fix any game. With one simple rule. “No more content updates!” Starcitizen is in constant development. An entire bug fix update is only possible if you are glad with the current state of the game and It’s player interactive gameplay.

MadBronie

Star Citizen is almost completely devoid of content though. Some very basic kill quests Some very basic fetch quests Some very basic UI / Invetory / Star Map Some very basic healing Some very basic and terrible mining <= Just opinion The worst FPS I have ever played <= Again just opinion but you gotta admit its pretty attrocious for a 500 million dollar game. Unless there is something I am missing other than FOMO ship sales events and lots of over priced ships? Not trying to be aggressive or hostile just stating my opinion of the game I've played lots and been testing major releases pretty much from the word jump.

KindCyberBully

Do you think people are setting standards too high for the game?

MadBronie

Were fast approaching 11 years in development its funding has ballooned to over 500 million dollars if you include the Calders $$$. We only have 1 Star System of the 100+ promised at the current rate its going to take CIG 1000 real years to fulfill their own stretch goals. The desync / performance / bugs are out of this world servers are running at 3-10 fps. SQ42 and Theaters of War are still for all intents and purposes vaporware. I don't think standars are too high I just think CIG is massively under delivering and has been for a long long long time. I will leave ya with a few quotes and say thank you for the level discussion I appreciate it more than you will ever know. [By the end of this year \~Chris Roberts](https://i.imgur.com/5pJHb60.png) [We don't commit to adding features \~Chris Roberts](https://i.imgur.com/igVwLaD.png) [No refunds \~Chris Roberts](https://i.imgur.com/eWX8eEO.png)

AverageJoeBlack1

Read your comments, liked it👍. This is why I like this Sub, we discuss facts, like in a conference grilling Roberts whilst he is looking at his pre made answers trying to justify 100s of broken lies .

BigAtmosphere3587

\*shrugs\* I'm happy with where things are going. The backend and R&D stuff, like planetary terrain generation, or making ships like the Hull-A with it's changing shape possible really interests me. They spend most of the enormous amount of time developing the systems and tools to make actual content, which is frustrating to a lot of people but it makes sense. I don't really listen to whatever chris roberts says, I pay more attention to the stuff from the actual devs, where they show progress on things. I knew going into it I wouldn't get a refund, and that it's nowhere near finished, and all I paid was $40 anyway. It's pretty fun (fluctuates a bit per patch with bugs) to me, and I enjoy following development.

Wowfan121231

Ohh hes at the stage where he still can create content out of the bugs ... but hes slowly getting there. Hey if you ever see this my dear streamer.. do what the other OG streamers did. Switch games have fun and just check out SC when there is a patch for one day or so Will help your sanity

Elf_7

This excuse of a game is a total mess. There is so much to fix and so much to add that I don't think it is possible to get this game in a nearly playable state for 15 years at least. But who cares if they are getting more money each year, right?

Sephirothevil

My favorite part was when he standing there and out of no where a gun just clips the wall and started blasting him. Man that had my laughing, that was good. I just went on youtube to see if there are more failure tubers on there making content for this old tech demo. Man some of these guys have made the same video every day for 3.17 basically coping the same thing over and over again. What's that saying regarding insanity? "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." I wish there were more glitchy fail videos then 20 videos of the same tuber regarding 3.17 and how he or she can't play it or what ship they're going to buy next for the 15th time. I think at this point they should be at the point of denial or serious denial.

KempFidels

*cue sad trombone sound effect*

waterbendergm1

How worse can the development of a game go? Every year we say, "it can't go any worst than that" and the developers always find a way to make it even worse every year. How many more steps are there? I want to know. Since this game clearly is unable to work with other people in it - why on EARTH don't they give us dedicated servers so that you can basically play this game solo? Or is that like impossible to be implemented? Are there any other games that you can chose to play online or on your own with no other players in your "server"? Cuz at the end of the day, most people play this game alone - so until they fix it (if that ever happens) why not allow players to play on their own period and see if that fixes the performance. I wish there was a way for me to play this game offline, just me and the game engine, no online progress no nothing, so that I could see if that makes the performance stable for once? And that is not piracy - I have already paid for this game, I just want to play it - how can I do that? Any crackers with knoiwledge? Is craking this game for the sole purpose to make it offline and stable even possible?

Norobobro

In the early days someone managed to create a smooth offline experience. That was like 8 (?) years ago.

waterbendergm1

I see! Maybe it can still be done; Or I guess its going to be the harderst crack ever cuz the game is so messed up, it is its own anti-piracy service :P

MisczaksHunting

Incredible how many serial copers this game has.
