Hey AFL reddit,
I've made a sudoku puzzle based on the game we love. How? You may ask. I've drawn some lines on the grid in the shape of goal posts and footballs and added some symbols. All these lines and symbols come with conditions on what numbers can go in those cells.
Here are all the rules:
Normal Sudoku Rules apply.
White lines are German Whispers lines. Adjacent digits on this line must have a difference of at least 5.
The red lines are Renban lines. Digits on this line are consecutive and can be in any order. Additionally, the two adjacent cells on each line separated by an orange circle are themselves consecutive.
Max/Min: Cells with arrows facing outward must be greater than all orthoganally adjacent cells. Cells with arrows facing inward must be smaller than all orthoganally adjacent cells.
Cells with a positive gradient AFL logo are even. Cells with a negative gradient AFL logo are odd.
This puzzle is also antiking. Two cells that are a king's move away (in chess) cannot contain the same digit.

It is an amazing channel. I still need to send it to CTC, and write up a walk through for them as it's a requirement of submission. I'm still waiting to see if they solve the sudoku I submitted last month.

Yeah. If the testers at CTC are not able to solve it logically, then they can have a look to see how it might be done and the puzzle may still be passed on to Simon and Mark. They don't usually accept puzzles that require lots of guessing.

Hints to get started:
>! a quick first look and seems like the AFL logo cells are very restricted, might be a good place to start if you get stuck!<
Further clarification
>!the red line must come from somewhere in the middle of the digits 1-9, the the cells outside of the lines in the corner boxes must be either very low or very high!<

Yeah I have seen some of their videos before but I've always just stuck to regular ones. I think I have yours filled out with all the possibilities but I must be missing something - there are a lot where I am down to only 2/3 possibilities but there is another logic step I am missing to get that next possibility elimination.

Thanks for creating this.
I reckon I've put in about 5 hours solving it - my first sudoku variant, and I think I've finally got it.
Is there a quick way to check if it is right and I haven't broken any rules?

I used f-puzzles and had to install some scripts to draw renban lines and German Whispers lines, which don't come built in to the site. I also had to install an enhanced version of the solver that is many times faster and integrate it with f-puzzles. Maybe message me your solution and I'll tell you if it is right.

that's amazing. I have no fuckin hope of completing it.

submit this to cracking the cryptic.

I will! I'll ask them to solve it during grand final week if possible.

green/ blue no rule?

gosh I need a "check" button, I've made a minor error somewhere and need to figure where I've gone wrong. pesky 1's!

No, that's just for aesthetic purposes.

Siri, show me Cones of Dunshire in sudoku form.

I’ll give it a shot but can’t wait to see Simon do this on Cracking the Cryptic

When you mean walk through, is that essentially how to solve it (the awnser)?

Yeah. If the testers at CTC are not able to solve it logically, then they can have a look to see how it might be done and the puzzle may still be passed on to Simon and Mark. They don't usually accept puzzles that require lots of guessing.

I'd start with the 6 in the middle box

This is so cool. I've been a bit obsessed with sudokus lately whilst I've been procrastinating doing work. Looking forward to giving this one a go

I've only ever done regular sudokus before. I'm now an hour into this and have only filled in 2 numbers...

No better time to start on sudoku variants! Do check out the Cracking the Cryptic youtube channel for more on sudoku variants.

Looks great. Definitely a bit of a struggle so far, hopefully I’ll get there soon

this is tough. haven't played these rules before. lots of extra bits, I keep forgetting the king rule
